Marine Mammal Surf Festival 2008
Mark your calendars! On July 26 & 27 Nor-Cal Surf Shop will host the First Marine Mammal Surf Festival to raise awareness of the mass slaughtering of dolphins and whales in Japan, Norway and Iceland. Dick's Surf Festival 2006 - RECAP
The conditions on Saturday looked ugly. The first day was called off, but we realized that the size of our event could not be held in one day. We spent all morning calling contestants who could surf some heats on Saturday afternoon. Charging out at Rockaway, the first day in big mixed up conditions, were the Groms, Juniors, and Mens divisions. Without their charging support, we probably would not have pulled off #11. Things looked good after day one was in the books.
Day One's conditions were a day late. With the predicted Saturday's conditions now arriving for Day Two, Sunday cleaned up and the swell was there pumping into south corner Rockaway. All the contestants were charging out there to battle their way to the finals. Spectators watched some of Nor Cal's Greats like Joe Grochowski, Tyler Payne, Jim Tjogas, Colin Dwyer, and Casey Smith to name a few, show off their Rockaway skills. #11 shaped up to be a huge success!
Thank you to all the people who made it happen. All sponsors' prizes and raffle, hosts Shawn Rhodes & Greg Savin, Cooks Karen & Vicki, the judges, and all the contestants who charged Rockaway's conditions. Most of all, big ups to Uncle Dick for hooking us up with one solid day of sunny weather and swell.

The 13th Annual San Francisco Aloha Festival
Join the crew at Nor Cal Surf Shop this Saturday and Sunday, August 2nd-3rd from 10am to 5pm at the San Francisco Presidio. We'll have exclusive Nor Cal Aloha Fest gear available for purchase. There are three main components to our program: environmental education, stimulating activities in nature, and ongoing mentoring. Currently, we offer snowboarding, surfing, and conservation field trips to captivate youth and create an appreciation for the environment. |
